Travel and Tourism OCR National Level 3

Entry Guidance:

5 GCSEs at grade A* to C or equivalent. No previous knowledge of the subject is required on this course.  The course will only run if a sufficient number of students express an interest.

Syllabus Outline:

The course is offered as three separate options:

  • 6 unit (1 x A level)
  • 12 unit (2 x A levels)
  • 18 unit (3 x A levels)

Each unit covers a specific travel and tourism topic giving the student a good foundation in that area. All work is regularly assessed, allowing students to improve their work prior to final submission to the examiner.

Course Content:

By the end of the course you will have gained an excellent knowledge of the travel industry. After completing the first 12 units you can build up your skills and knowledge in specific areas such as the airline industry, tourism development, working as an overseas rep and many others.

Methods of Assessment:

There are no exams with this qualification; it is all project based work. There are three levels that can be awarded; Pass – equivalent to grade E, Merit – equivalent to grade C, Distinction – which is equivalent to grade A.

Your portfolio work will be initially assessed within College by your tutors. This allows you to add more and improve your grade. After you are happy with your work it is then second marked in College and finally marked by a visiting examiner from OCR. The grades awarded are A to E.

With each topic area your work will be assessed using a range of different methods that could include personal and PowerPoint presentations, written reports, wallcharts, brochures and role plays.

General Comments:

This course is ideal for students interested in the Travel and Tourism industries. However it is not restricted to those students. The course develops a wide range of essential transferable skills to allow students to prepare for a career or for university. To develop the students’ knowledge of the travel industry we undertake a range of trips to local places of interest and tourist attractions.

In conclusion, the course combines well with all other A levels, is ideal for university UCAS points, provides a wide range of skills, knowledge and expertise.
