Details of KS3:

French and Spanish are taught at present.  Year 7 pupils are placed in either French or Spanish forms (previous Primary experience is taken into account where possible), although parents are given the option of making a case for their child to study either language specifically, before arriving in Year 7. In Year 8, pupils will be given the opportunity to study another language.
Pupils will be given the opportunity to continue to study one or two languages to GCSE

Details of KS4:

Students can opt to take French or  Spanish at GCSE level.  At present the GCSE exam (WJEC) consists of 4 elements: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.  The writing and speaking elements are completed as coursework.  The content centres around 4 themes: Personal and Social Life, The Local Community, The World of Work and the Wider World

Alternatively, Students may wish to take NVQ Business Spanish or French which is continually assessed vocational qualification which allows students to learn languages for use in the work place.

Details of KS5:

French, Spanish and German AS and A2 are taught in the sixth form.  Gerrman is being phased out in the future. The WJEC syllabus is followed in all three subjects.  Two teachers are allocated to each group, sharing the 4 lessons equally.  The work and responsibilities of teaching different parts of the syllabus are shared as agreed between the two teachers.  In addition to the 4 lessons, the students traditionally have one extra conversation lesson every other week with the Foreign Language Assistant.  His/her work with the students should be monitored by the 2 teachers.
Selection of Students: Careful monitoring of potential A Level candidates for French and Spanish takes place during Year 11.  Preliminary and exploratory Sixth form interviews yield provisional lists of students who are required to have a suitability slip filled in by their French / Spanish teacher.  In this way both students and teachers receive informed ideas of what to expect at AS Level.

Forthcoming Events:

Trips to Spain and France to be announced
