Frequently Asked Questions

Holiday Scheme for Year 6 : New uniform details  : School Routine  : Planners : Frequently Asked Questions

Q - Will I be in a form with my friends?

A - We do not put new students into forms according to who they are friends with but you should be with at least one person from your primary school.

Q - What do people do at lunchtime?

A - Lunchtime is only half an hour so there isn't much time for clubs etc. Most students get something to eat and socialise with their friends and then go to their next lesson.

Q - What do I do if I get lost?

A - There are always members of staff on the corridors during lesson change over so if you do get lost, stop and ask for some help. Other students are also really helpful and will usually walk you to where you need to go. You will also have a map in your planner.

Q - I am the only one from my primary school. How will I make friends?

A - You will not be the only person who is by themself. Many of our students come from different places and do not know anybody. Don't worry, you will soon make friends in your form and in your lessons. Talk to people and find out where they are from etc. You never know, they may be in the same position as you.

If you are the only person arriving from a particular primary school, the Pastoral Leader of Year 7 will be in touch soon with some ideas for getting to know others.

Q - I can't tie a tie! What do I do?

A - Grab a tie from your Dad's wardrobe and get practising! You have plenty of time to perfect the art before you arrive. However, if you are finding it difficult, your form tutor will give a master class on the first day in September.

Q - What do I do if I am being bullied?

A - Unfortunately, bullying and friends falling out does happen from time to time. The most important thing to remember if this does happen, is to tell a member of staff immediately. The ideal person to tell is your form tutor but any teacher will do. We can then put things into place to prevent the bullying happening again. We treat bullying very seriously and will always act on the information given. Please do not feel you cannot tell us what is happening.

Q - Who do I talk to if I have a problem?

A - The best person to talk to is your form tutor. You will see them every day and they will probably know you the best out of all the members of staff here. Part of their job is to make sure you are happy and therefore will be happy to help you if you have a problem. You could also speak to your Pastoral Leader. They will also be happy to help.

Each Year 7 form also has a Peer Supporter attached to it. Peer Supporters are Year 11 students who are trained in listening skills. It is their job to help younger students if they have a problem. They will come into your registration sessions or you may see them around school.

Q - What do I do if I forget a book or my homework?

A - Everybody forgets something from time to time but the best way to prevent this from happening regularly is to have a good routine. Pack your bag the night before and check it again in the morning. Do your homework the night it is set and then put it back in your book (if it is a seperate sheet) so you do not forget it on the day it is due. You must remember to write all of your homework into your planner and tick it off when it is done.

If you do forget something, it is not the end of the world. Tell the teacher the truth and bring it in the next day. The teacher will write a note in your planner. This may be a warning, but if the problem persists, you may receive a poor comment. Learn from your mistake and get organised!
