Details of KS3:

Time allocation:

All pupils in sets 1-6 at KS3 have 4 1 hour lessons per week

Pupils in Year 8 and 9 set 7 have 5 lessons per week.

 

Year 7

 

  • Pupils will be allocated to sets on the basis of KS2 examination results and teacher assessments from their feeder schools.
  • There are two bands each consisting of 6 groups
  • Pupils with SEN will attend the Support Department from the end of September.

 

Schemes of Work

 

At the beginning of Year 7 pupils use a programme of transition lessons that we have developed.

Throughout Year 7 pupils use differentiated schemes of work based upon the National Numeracy Strategy, using Framework Mathematics as the main resource.  Texts are shared between both bands.

 

Set 1                            Framework 7 Extension

Set 2, 3 & 4                  Framework 7 Core

Set 5                            Framework 7 Support

Set 6                            Framework 7 Access

 

Assessment

 

There are 4 formal assessments during the year. At least one of these will be an open book assessment. The final examination will be the Optional SAT where pupils sit either the level 4-6 or 3-5 papers. After each examination pupils complete an AFL (Assessment for Learning) sheet which encourages the individual to identify strengths and weaknesses as well as setting targets.  Adjustments to sets are made throughout the year.

 

Homework

 

Set once per week (see College Homework Timetable). Pupils are issued with their own homework textbook or workbook.

 

  

Year 8

 

  • Pupils are placed in sets based upon examination and teacher assessment in Year 7.
  • There are two bands each consisting of 7 sets.

There are 3 formal assessments during the year. The first one takes place in November to help pupils to identify strengths and weaknesses and set appropriate targets.

In January pupils will sit a mock SAT which will help establish which level of entry is appropriate. Pupils follow a structured revision programme before the SATs in May. This includes Booster lessons as well as the use of past papers.

All pupils at Key Stage 4 have 3, 1 hour lessons.

Year 10

  • Pupils are placed in sets according to Year 9 SATs results and teacher assessment
  • There are two bands each consisting of seven sets.

Schemes of Work

Schemes of work are based on the appropriate examination specification as detailed below using the new Heinemann as the main text in all sets. SMP interact, Key Maths and the Heinemann Modular texts are also available.

Sets 1 - 3 Edexcel Higher level - no 2540 (linear)
Sets 4 - 6 Edexcel Foundation -  no 2540 (linear)

Assessment

Internal Examinations are held once each term

Homework

Minimum of one piece each week. Most groups should be set two pieces of work (possible exception: Foundation students in sets 6 and 7).

Year 11

  • Pupils generally remain in the same sets as year 10 with minor adjustments according to Year 10 exam results and teacher assessment. 
  • There are two bands each consisting of seven sets.

Scheme of Work

Schemes of work are based on the appropriate examination specification as detailed below using Heinemann SMP Interact/Key Maths as the main texts in all sets.

Sets 1 - 2 Edexcel Higher Level - No 2540 (linear)
Sets 3 - 7 Edexcel Intermediate/Foundation - No 2540 (linear)


Some students in sets 5, 6 and 7 will also take the Edexcel Numeracy qualification at either level 1 or 2.

Assessment

Mock Examinations are held in December and March/April

Homework

Minimum of 1 piece each. Most groups should be set 2 pieces of work with one of these a revision piece of work. (possible exception Foundation Students in sets 6 and 7).

Coursework - accounts for 20% of the final GCSE grade

  • Data Handling Task will be completed at the start of Year 10
  • Algebraic task will be completed at the start of Year 11

GCSE STATISTICS

Scheme of Work

Based on Key Maths stats text and stats for AQA text.

Specification: AQA

Group: year 11 Options.

Time Allocation: Two lessons per week.

Assessment

Internal mock examination in December.
Final exam  75% of the mark
Coursework  25% of the mark.

Details of KS5:

AS level

  • Pure Maths 3 X 1 hour
  • Applied Maths 2 X 1 hour
  • Fast track Pure Maths 3 X 1 hour
  • Fast track Applied Maths 3 X 1 hour

Two groups of students will follow AQA maths (AS). In Year 12 students will complete Modules MPC1, MPC2, MS1 B or MD01 to obtain AS Mathematics (code 5361).

The fast track group will cover AQA Mathematics (AS) as above, continuing to study Mathematics A2 modules C3, 4 and M1 in the Summer term and Further Mathematics modules MPF1 and D1.

GCSE Resit Maths:

Edexcel Intermediate Level with teacher marked coursework (specification code No 2540).

Year 13

  • Pure Maths 3X1 hour
  • Fast track Pure Mathematics 4 X 1 hour
  • Applied Mathematics 2 X 1 hour
  • Fast track Applied Mathematics 3 X 1 hour

Two groups of students completing AQA mathematics modules MPC3, MPC4., MM1 B, (code number 6361).

Fast track group covering AQA specification B Further Mathematics (AS) as above continuing to MFP1 MFP2, MFP3, MS2A, MD01 MM2A ( code No 6371).
