BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development

Entry Guidance:

You will be expected to have 5 GCSEs Grades A* - C or equivalent.  This course will only run if a sufficent number of students express an interest.

Syllabus Outline:

This qualification will give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to prepare them for employment in the field of Childcare.

It will also give learners the opportunity to continue their study to degree or other higher- education programmes in the same vocational sector or in a related sector. The extended diploma has a value of up to 320 UCAS points.

Course Content:

Unit titles include:

  • Positive relationships for children’s care, learning and development
  • Promoting children’s development
  • Safeguarding children
  • Children’s learning activities and play
  • Diet and nutrition for children
  • Meeting additional requirements for children’s care, learning and development

Methods of Assessment:

Each of the units will be assessed internally and moderated by the examining body. All portfolios will expect students to demonstrate a good level of knowledge and understanding. In order to achieve the higher grades you will be expected to collect and analyse information and data and carry out an evaluation of this.

General Comments:

You will also need to successfully undertake 800 hours supervised work placement. In order to be able to do this you will need to have a check carried out by the Criminal Records Bureau to ensure there are no convictions or warnings on your record. We arrange this for you.
