Individual departments decide whether students will sit exams in January/June, and the departmental policy on re sits. You must ask each subject area.
Most courses will include an element of coursework or personal study. It is very important that you identify the deadline dates for each subject area, so that you can plan your work carefully to avoid pressure. Several departments may be working to the same deadline date set by the exam boards. Part of the development of successful Sixth Form habits is to learn to schedule your work properly to enable all your work to be of the highest standard.
You will need to be successful on your Year 12 course to continue to the second year of study. A student who has been unsuccessful in Year 12 will need to discuss the best course of action with the Director of Sixth Form. In the vocational courses, students will have to keep up with the requirements of the course if they wish to move on successfully into year 13.
Close monitoring of student performance is a vital part of supporting student achievement. In each year group students will receive 3 reviews of their progress in subject areas.
1st performance review October
2nd Performance review January
3rd Performance review March/April
1st performance review October
2nd Performance review January
3rd Performance review March/April
The first review will report whether you have satisfactorily completed the induction period on your chosen courses, in addition to effort and attendance. The second and third reviews in addition to effort and attendance provide an indication of your current level of performance compared to target (expected) final AS and A2 performance. Your GCSE grades will form the basis of your target grades and you, your form tutors and your subject tutors are fully aware of your target grades. This information will be used in a positive manner to facilitate a learning environment that will enable students to reach their potential. Any student who is identified as not achieving their potential will receive additional support and guidance.
In addition to the cycle of reviews, following on from each report, you will have an interview with your form tutor to discuss your progress on an individual basis. The aim of these interviews is to offer support that is tailored to the individual and help you overcome any difficulties that you are having with your sixth form study. An effort score of 5 or below will be used as a benchmark for additional individual monitoring of student performance in the first instance through your form tutor. Issues should be highlighted early so that additional support is there to help each of you to get back on track and work towards achieving your potential.
In addition it is envisaged that there will be further study support offered in the form of individual mentoring over and above that provided by your form tutor.
