St Georges Crypt
PSHE had the pleasure of hearing about the work of St George’s Crypt during a lesson on Citizenship and People who make a Difference. One of the needs of the Crypt is for a constant supply of toiletries for the homeless men and women who use their shelter and hostels.
In response, the Year 11 students brought in a fantastic collection of toiletries which are being delivered to the Crypt and will make a difference to many lives. Thank you Year 11!
Even more badminton success!

Cardiac Risk in the Young
Charity Single Launch, Garforth Liberal Club, 7th December 2010.
Forbidden Link-Sleep Well ( Gained an Angel )
In aid of Lewis Barry Appeal and C.R.Y Charity (Cardiac Risk in the Young)
December the 7th will see the launch of Sleep Well (Gained an Angel), a new single by Garforth based band ‘Forbidden Link’. Proceeds from the song, a tribute to Garforth teenager Lewis Barry who tragically passed away this year will be used to purchase a memorial bench in Lewis’s memory. This will be placed in Roundhay Park where Lewis, a gifted cyclist, regularly raced in the West Riding Track League with his many cycling friends. Any remaining proceeds will go towards the CRY Charity.
The band consists of five of Lewis’ school friends who are all aged between 15 and 16 years old. The boys are Leyton Hodgson (vocalist) , Ben Fletcher (guitar), Danny Brown (backing vocals and bass guitar) , Callum Jackson (drummer) and George Watts (guitar).
Ben Fletcher (Guitarist) said, ‘Lewis was a friend of ours and the band wanted to produce a tribute to him and raise some funds for a permanent memorial to him and, hopefully, raise some more funds for a very worthy charity’
Danny Brown (Backing vocals + Bass) said, ‘This is our way of saying thank you to Carol and Mark for giving us such a great friend and we wanted to show our appreciation by writing this song, with all the proceeds going to a good cause.
Lewis’ parents, Carol and Mark Barry added,
‘We are absolutely delighted that Lewis is being remembered in this way by his friends, he loved live music and was tremendously proud of the boys, he would be delighted with their efforts and want his mother and I to support the band.’
The song written and performed by the band was recorded at Purple Pro Audio Studio in Leeds, and is the bands’ first professional recording, artwork for the CD was designed by Chloe Brown and enhanced by Ikon Design in Wakefield. With Christmas fast approaching the band hope that it will be an ideal gift for anyone who knew Lewis and wish to remember him through this tribute or by anyone who simply enjoys good music! All the proceeds will go to support the appeal and the charity and the band are hoping for a sell out of the limited edition CD.
The launch will take place at 3.30pm on the 7th December at the Liberal Club on Garforth Main Street, where you will be able to purchase the CD for £3.00.
Garforth Academy, Brigshaw High School and Education Leeds' music and arts service, ArtForms are all joining forces to provide artistic outlets for local people all year round.
To celebrate the launch, a spectacular music and arts showcase has been organised at Garforth Academy for the local population to see what is on offer.

Visit by Latvian Students
Last year a number of Year 10 students, (currently Year 11), were involved in a European Community Project along with students from Krasvala in Latvia. The Latvian students visited Garforth and worked with our students to create a number of videos reflecting important issues about the local community. Both groups kept in touch via the Radiowaves podcasting website and kept their Blogs up to date. Radiowaves have produced a final video in January 2010 which gives a flavour of what the students did during the project. You can view it here - click on the play button to see the video. Needless to say all our students were excellent ambassadors for the school (and the country!) and you can see all their videocasts at http://www.radiowaves.co.uk/s/my+Europe
