GCE in Applied Business - Double Award (UKCAF)

Entry Guidance:

Students will be expected to have at least five GCSEs at grades A* - C, or equivalent, including Maths and English Language.  This course will only run if a sufficient number of students express an interest.

Syllabus Outline:

The aim of the Career Academy Foundation is to transform young people’s life chances. This unique opportunity offers successful students the following benefits in addition to that of other Sixth Form students:

The places will be limited for this exceptional career opportunity. Selection for the course will follow the guidelines as laid down by the UKCAF and following a successful interview with the Head of Department. Applicants should register their interest early with the Head of Department.

The course offered over two years is equivalent to two A2s. The one-year course is equivalent to two AS grades. The two-year course consists of twelve units in total:

Methods of Assessment:

The course is internally assessed (67%) via a completed portfolio of evidence, consisting of assignments that are based on real business situations. The remaining (33%) of the course is externally assessed, where students will sit examinations.

General Comments:

The aim of the AS units is to encourage investigation, and to support a highly active, student-centred approach. The A2 units require a decision-making approach, encouraging students to consider management decisions and their impact on business

The GCE in Applied Business qualifies for UCAS points. It gives students a wide choice of progression options into further study, training or relevant employment in the business sector. Students who successfully complete the qualification will be well equipped to move onto degrees, BTEC Higher National Diplomas or Modern Apprenticeships in related subjects.
